Have you ever noticed that you get what you resist? Take a look right now. If you can’t see it in your own life, look around you at the people close to you. Don’t you find it interesting that your friend who hates traffic, always has a mega traffic-jam story to complain about? Which came first, the resistance to the condition or the unwanted condition itself?
We argue that we create a relationship with the things that we resist. What happens when you are in a relationship with someone? You see them or hear from them frequently. The closer you are to the person the more you see them. Well it’s the same with resistance. The more we resist, the closer that relationship becomes.
If you really want to rid yourself of the unwanted feelings associated with the thing that you are resisting, the path forward is acceptance. Once we accept, we are able to just let things be. We no longer need the external circumstance to be a certain way for us to be at peace. That’s the key.
Easier said than done. We have spent 45 years helping our clients identify what they are resisting so that we can help them accept rather than continually push back. It’s the push back that ultimately leads to more and more connection to that thing.
We encourage you to take a look at what you are resisting in your life right now.
