Well-being is like great food, simple. The more you try to muck with it and force it, the less you have it. A simple formula we have always taught is:
Gratitude for the past, responsibility for the future, and acceptance of the present.
This is the foundation for well-being. Take whatever current situation is plaguing you and insert it into this equation. What did you notice?
Where this equation gets difficult to implement is when we add feelings to the recipe. Or rather, when we resist our feelings.
We spend a lot of time in our work asking questions that help our clients feel (rather than resist their feelings) so that they can experience this equation more fluidly. The gears can get clogged up when emotions are suppressed. That’s why the basics are so important. In the most challenging of times, coming back to this simple equation can bring a bit of peace.
Gratitude for the past, responsibility for the future, and acceptance of the present.
To simplicity!
